Craft Organization - Punch Storage
In the last post, I talked about trying to find something that went with my medium dies to put into the IKEA Gnedby I have. The thought is to keep similar items grouped together to ease finding things and keep organized better.

What else cuts paper into shapes?
Punches!
The grey box in the picture on the right = my old, quick solution to organize smaller punches. It's two boxes duct taped together. The duct tape didn't just keep them together, it covered the labels and made a handle I used to lift it out of the shortbread cookie tin I originally put it in. Other punches fit on the bottom of the tin and I used this on top with my more-used punches.
Hope you're finding ways to keep yourself sane whether you're stuck - I mean, staying, inside with other people or not.
(On with the yammer. . .)
Although the dowel/rack/curtain rod systems I've seen online seem like a great way to store punches because you can easily see what you have and the theory is you'd use them more, it wasn't an option for me. I don't have much wall space and what I do have isn't easily accessible.
Some of my punches fit easily on the shelf, but smaller ones couldn't. I looked around my stash to see what boxes I could use to make it easier to store them, but had to get creative and still came up a little short. When I asked Hubs if he/we could build drawers for the unit, he asked me to make a model. When I had a little time on my hands, I pulled out one of our old moving boxes and made one or two.
Making models out of the boxes help me in a few ways I didn't think of before:
*they help make sure hubs and I are on the same page when starting new projects,
*they serve as temporary solutions making it easier to wait for permanent solutions,
*they help me make sure my measurements are right,
*they allow me to play with them a little to make sure I do want it,
*and help me work out any kinks before the real thing.
I thought I could either have hubs, my eldest son, or myself make drawers using a CNC machine to fit inside the unit. In the meantime, I have a box for each of the shelves and I'm using them for now.
